Tadalafil
Tadalafil is a medicine used to treat the physical problem of
erectile dysfunction (impotence) in men. It can help a majority of
men with erectile dysfunction get and keep an erection when they
become sexually excited. Tadalafil does not cause erections directly
but affects the response to sexual stimulation. Its not an
aphrodisiac or a hormone.
Tadalafil is in a class of medications known as PDE-5 inhibitors,
which are used to treat cases of male impotence. Tadalafil was
launched in the major markets of Europe, Australia and New Zealand
on 5th Feb, 2003. Elli Lilly and Co has developed Tadalafil.
Tadalafil is yet to be launched in the U.S; however the exact date
for the launch is not known.

Tadalafil Studies and Reports
In a study, funded by Lilly and Icos, involving 348 men with mild
to severe erectile dysfunction were given either a placebo or
Tadalafil over a period of eight weeks. Patients were asked to
attempt intercourse with their partners on two occasions 24 hours
after taking a dose, and on two occasions after 36 hours. About 59
percent of the patients reported positive effects in their ability
to have sex after 36 hours.
Safety data from the trial gave no indication of increased
incidence of cardiovascular problems. Less than two percent of the
348 patients taking Tadalafil or placebo discontinued the study due
to side effects, which included headache, flushing and upset
stomach.
In earlier trials the company had found Tadalafil lasted up to 24
hours, compared to about four hours for Viagra, Pfizer's
blockbuster, Tadalafils competitor. Those early studies have
shown the drug to be successful in treating about 81 percent of
erectile dysfunction patients, with fewer side effects than Viagra.
How to take Tadalafil
Tadalafil is taken orally when needed between 24 hours and half and
hour before sexual activity. Take only as directed, usually once
daily as needed. Tadalafil works along with sexual stimulation to
help achieve an erection.
Precautions while taking Tadalafil
You should have a complete medical history and exam to determine
the cause of your impotence before taking Tadalafil. Men who have
medical conditions that may cause a sustained erection such as
sickle cell anemia, leukemia or multiple myeloma or who have an
abnormally shaped penis may not be able to take Tadalafil. There are
several medications that are known to interact with Tadalafil, so be
sure to tell your doctor about all medications you are taking
including those you can get without a prescription. Tadalafil has
not been studied with other treatments for impotence, so use in
combination with other treatments is not recommended. Limit alcohol
intake, as it may aggravate side effects of this drug.To avoid
dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying
position, get up slowly. The elderly may be more sensitive to the
side effects of Tadalafil; therefore caution is advised in this
group.
