Lansoprazole is a proton-pump inhibitor, used in the treatment of ulcers; gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD); and conditions wherein the stomach tends to produces excess acid - such as the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Lansoprazole is also used in conjunctin with certain other medications for eliminating H. Pylori - bacteria which causes ulcers. Lansoprazole works by decreasing acid amount in the stomach.


How to Use

• Lansoprazole is available in long-acting, delayed-release capsule and also as granules used in the formation of delayed-release solutions (liquid) for oral intake. Lansoprazole is taken once a day, before meals. When it is taken in combination with certain other medications it is taken twice a day or three times a day for ten to fourteen days. Follow lavbel instructions and consult doctor about intake and dosage. The capsule should be swallowed whole and in case of any problems the granules can be mixed with other foods, but it should not be crushed or chewed. Continue with Lansoprazole even if there is relief from symptoms without consulting with your doctor.

Precautions

• Before taking Lansoprazole:
• Consult your doctor & pharmacist about any allergies to Lansoprazole or other medications.
• Inform the doctor & pharmacist about the intake of any medications, supplements, etc.
• If you have been prescribed (Carafate), consume it take thirty minutes after the intake of Lansoprazole.
• Inform your doctor about your medical history especially about the existence of any liver or kidney disease.
• Inform your doctor about existing pregnancy, or plans for the same, or whether your are breast-feeding. If pregnancy occurs while taking lansoprazole, inform your doctor.

Over Dose

• Emergency services should be notified imeddiately in case a pateint overdoses on Lansoprazole.

Missed Dose

• Consume the missed dose immedicately, unless the next dose is due in a short while. Continue the regular dosing schedule in this case by skipping the missed dose.

Storage

• Keep the medication in a tight contained completely closed and away from the reach of children and elements such as heat and moisture. Store at room temperatures. Dispose of any medications that are outdated and consult your pharmacist about the proper disposal of the same.
