Ibuprofen is used in the management of mild to moderate pain and inflammation, menstrual cramps, headache, musculoskeletal and joint disorders such as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, periarticular disorders such as bursitis and tenosynovitis, and soft tissue disorders such as pains and sprains.

Juvenile Ibuprofen is not recommended for children under 1 year of age or those weighing less than 7kg.

The most common side effects with ibuprofen are gastro-intestinal disturbances; these are usually mild and reversible. Side effects include headache, dizziness, nervousness, tinnitus, depression, drowsiness and insomnia. It can also cause fever, asthma, rashes, hepatotoxicity and aseptic meningitis which occur less frequently. Some patients may experience visual disturbances, blood abnormalities, kidney issues and breathing difficulties

If Ibuprofen is taken along with high BP tablets, it reduces their effect. Ibuprofen has significantly increased effect with moclobemide. If Ibuprofen is consumed with Warfarin, it increases the risk of bleeding in the gastro-intestinal area. 

Ibuprofen with aspirin can decrease aspirins’ effect and is potentially fatal. When it is consumed along with lithium it causes lithium toxicity. Check with your general physician regarding any allergies and administer Ibuprofen as per prescription.
